What is it like to be a Pahadi woman residing in the remote hilly areas of India?
How would it feel to wake up every single day before sunrise and continue to work even after sunset? And work that is physically very demanding!
In the mountains you can easily catch a sight of her traversing through the jungle carrying fuelwood/fodder weighing 9 -10 kgs or even more on her back.
Wonder how she feels carrying a jerrycan full of water on her head every day, wonder how much it hurts her back or neck every day.
Despite all wonder what gives her the strength to nurture her kids single-handedly?
Wonder what holds her back at the time of melancholy?
Perhaps the pines and Deodars know her struggle unlike us.
Perhaps with time, she learns the art of staying strong like the mountains!
It’s arduous to put the issues of a Himalayan woman into words. That leaves us with the thought what can we do, temporarily, to make her life easier, even if just for a little while?
A day-off from the daily chores sounds like instant gratification. Yes, it doesn’t create lasting happiness but gives her a day-off to unwind and a much-needed break!
But how to make that happen for them at no cost?
